Eat well, get plenty of exercise, get eight hours of sleep each night… these are all common New Year’s resolutions pregnant women – and just about everyone else – make. What about some uncommon ones? You know you need to take care of yourself while pregnant, but Eagle’s Landing OB/GYN says that there’s much more to it than that. Here are three resolutions you might not have considered.

Stay Off the Internet

Today’s internet user becomes his or her own doctor, veterinarian, and auto and home repair expert. Here’s the thing, though: The internet is filled with inaccurate information that can frighten you. Make one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2020 to be, “I will not research every pregnancy symptom I experience.” Nothing is worse than causing yourself undue stress while pregnant; this affects you and your baby. Rather, reduce your internet time and opt for a healthier approach to your concerns, such as talking with your OB/GYN or looking up your symptoms in a medically-approved pregnancy book.

Stay Mindful

It’s easy to plan out your pregnancy from start to finish the minute you find out you’re expecting but things will change along the way, so take things one minute at a time. You won’t know how long you’re going to suffer from morning sickness, nor will you know how you will feel at the seventh-month mark. Goals are good, as is preparedness, but pregnancies are not predictable, so stay mindful throughout. Enjoy each minute of your pregnancy and rather than plan ahead for the unknown, journal what you’re feeling throughout the day. You and your baby will love reading your thoughts when your child is older.

Honor Yourself

Make a New Year’s resolution to honor you, too. Don’t feel as if you have to keep up with your normal activities if you aren’t feeling up to it. You are carrying a child and there will be times when you are tired. Honor those times by resting. In fact, make sure to schedule “me time” every day. Yes, you have a job, activities, a social life and might have older children, but it’s okay to be selfish during your pregnancy so make a resolution to do so. Exhaustion and stress can make you and your baby ill during your pregnancy, so even though you take pride in being Wonder Woman, give yourself a break.
