Stay Inside

Staying inside during the hottest part of the day is an obvious place to start. If you do not have to be outdoors during the 90-degree heat, give yourself and your body and break and head indoors to the air conditioning.

Feel free to crank up the AC if you have to – you deserve it. You can also turn on the ceiling fans, take a cool relaxing bubble bath or enjoy a quick dip in the pool. Just do what you have to and stay as cool as possible during the hot Georgia summer.

Stay Hydrated

Allowing yourself to get dehydrated will just make your menopause symptoms worse, so drink plenty of water, especially when you are outside in the heat. Plain water is best, but adding fresh fruit to your water is fine as well.

Stay away from alcohol and caffeinated beverages – they could make your menopause symptoms worse and leave you feeling even more uncomfortable. If you must have an adult beverage, save your daily glass of wine or can of beer for the cooler parts of the day.

Eat Right

Good nutrition is essential for women entering menopause, so pay close attention to your summer diet. Fresh fruits are abundant at this time of year, especially in Georgia, so visit local farmer’s markets and roadside stands to find the most delicious peaches, nectarines and whatever else strikes your fancy.

It pays to eat light when the temperature rises, so look for meals that do not require slaving over a hot stove. Cold sandwiches are always great this time of year, especially with a light sorbet or sherbert for dessert.
