Let’s Debunk 6 Myths About Morning Sickness

Everyone has an opinion on morning sickness and a solution for it. The problem is, many of these things are myths. Morning sickness isn’t one-size-fits-all, nor does it have only one solution. Each woman is different. In fact, some women might experience morning sickness during one pregnancy and be fine during her next pregnancy. Eagle’s Landing OB/GYN is here to debunk common morning sickness myths.

You Only Get Morning Sickness in the Morning

Wrong. Morning sickness can happen anytime during the day or night. The reason why it is named morning sickness is that most women experience nausea and vomiting in the a.m. This said, there is nothing that says you won’t get sick at other times during the day or be sick all day and night.

Nausea and Vomiting Are the Only Symptoms of Morning Sickness

Nope. While they are the most common symptoms, other problems associated with morning sickness include dizziness, light-headedness, motion sickness, and excess saliva. None of these symptoms are comfortable and some of them, such as motion sickness, can make you nauseous and vomit.

Don’t Try to Eat Anything

Bad advice. Although many people believe you won’t be able to eat with morning sickness, sometimes eating actually helps. Eating small meals all day long and a light snack before bedtime helps keep your blood sugar regulated and morning sickness symptoms at bay. Just avoid foods that upset your system.

Every Woman Gets Morning Sickness

Untrue. Morning sickness is not guaranteed with each pregnancy. Some women never experience morning sickness no matter how many children they have. If you don’t get morning sickness, don’t worry. Just breathe a sigh of relief that this disrupting pregnancy symptom skipped you.

Morning Sickness Causes Malnutrition in Your Baby

Huh-uh. It might make sense that vomiting will take away crucial nutrition from your unborn baby but this just isn’t the case. As long as you can eat small meals throughout the day, your baby is getting plenty of nutrition to develop and grow. Your OB/GYN will also keep an eye on this.

You’re Stuck With Morning Sickness So Just Deal With It

Fib. You don’t have to deal with morning sickness. There are ways to ease the symptoms. As mentioned above, snack lightly to avoid an empty stomach. Also, get plenty of rest and stay hydrated. Finally, wear comfortable clothing and put your feet up when you need to. Take care of you – bottom line.
