Questions You're Embarrassed to Ask

We get it. A visit with the gynecologist can be awkward and even embarrassing. This is the doctor who examines the most sensitive and private parts of your body, asks extremely intimate questions, and uses tools that are less than comfortable. Many women dread their yearly physicals and just want to get them over with as soon as possible. The practitioners at Eagles Landing understand and always try to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

With all that being said, the relationship with your OB/GYN is one of the most important ones to your health. It is imperative to your health that you be 100% honest with your doctor and ask any questions you have. Speak freely and don’t be embarrassed. Believe us, we have heard everything. These are the questions we find most patients want to ask but are too embarrassed to.

Does My Vagina Look Normal?

The short answer is, yes. Vaginas vary from woman to woman. They can be different colors (anywhere from pink to dark brown), they have different length labia majora, and they can have a clitoris that is more or less pronounced.

Does My Vagina Smell?

It does. When a vagina is healthy it has a pH balance of 4.5 and features a slightly sour smell. Throughout your cycle, you might notice different smells based on your hormones. Things like working out can also affect the smell. If you notice a truly foul smell that is accompanied by unusual discharge, let us know. It could be a sign of an infection.

How Much Discharge is Normal?

This is another one that varies from person to person. It also changes throughout your cycle. Discharge amount, color, and consistency change based on hormones. That means you may notice more when you are ovulating, aroused, pregnant, or breastfeeding. It is at its thickest when your fertility peaks.

Why is it Difficult For Me to Orgasm?

This could be due to anything from stress to lack of clitoral stimulation to orgasmic dysfunction. You may not think that this is an appropriate question to ask your gynecologist, but it absolutely is. It isn’t just about a healthy sex life, it could actually help us diagnose an underlying condition.

Do I Have an STD?

Women often come in concerned they may have an STD and assuming that we will just tell them without asking. While some STDs are more obvious and easy to diagnose, others require further testing. If you are concerned that you may have been exposed to an STD, let us know.

Whatever your concerns, the practitioners at Eagles Landing OB/GYN are here to listen and help. We pride ourselves on the trusting relationships we have with our patients.
