What Should You Do if You Suspect You’ve Got a UTI?

Comments Off on What Should You Do if You Suspect You’ve Got a UTI?

Urinary tract infections are incredibly common, but it can still be a surprise to suspect that you might have one. Eagle’s Landing OB/GYN has this advice for you if you suspect that you might have a urinary tract infection so that you can take the best care of yourself possible until you’re able to start taking antibiotics to fight the infection.

Take Note of Your Symptoms

It helps if you recognize the symptoms of a urinary tract infection. Some of the most common signs are:

  • Fever or chills.
  • Pain during urination.
  • Frequent urges to go to the bathroom.
  • Cloudy, smelly urine.
  • Pain in your bladder or lower abdomen.

If you’re noticing these symptoms, it’s highly likely that you may have a urinary tract infection. These don’t tend to go away on their own, but there are some things that you can do to feel a little better until you can get help.

Drink Extra Water

Your body, especially your urinary tract system, relies on water to stay healthy. If you don’t already prioritize drinking plenty of water, it might be time to increase your water intake for a bit. The extra water can help your urinary tract to flush out a little bit of the bacteria contributing to your UTI. This isn’t a cure, but it can help.

Make Sure to Get Plenty of Rest

Something else that helps until you can get to your doctor is to prioritize rest as much as you possibly can. When you give your body the rest that it needs, you allow your immune system to do its job more effectively. Lack of sleep is only going to make you feel worse overall.

Don’t Wait Too Long to Get Help

It’s really important that you don’t wait too long to get help. Urinary tract infections typically affect primarily the bladder, but if they get worse or if you ignore them, they can move to the kidneys. A kidney infection can take a lot longer to heal and it’s a lot more painful than a urinary tract infection is. Making an appointment as soon as possible ensures you get the treatment that you need.
