After giving birth, your body is going to be facing some significant changes, especially if this is your first child. Your body has worked hard to help your child grow and stay safe and healthy. Now that your baby is here, your body is going to be facing more changes. Some of these changes are physical, while others are emotional. To help your body through this period of time, make sure to go to your doctor for postpartum checkups, and always let them know if you feel something isn’t quite right.
Your Body After Giving Birth
In addition to having to care for your new child, you also need to be mindful of your physical health and the changes your body is going through after giving birth. While it’s easier said than done, getting plenty of rest and having patience with yourself will help this process significantly. Some of the things you’ll experience are chest pains from the milk production and breastfeeding, cramps and afterbirth pains from your uterus going back down to its pre-pregnancy size, and trouble urinating. What you can do is ask your doctor about pain medication, get plenty of rest, and do Kegels and other pelvic floor exercises.
Can My Body Change After a C-Section?
Cesarean birth, also referred to as a C-section, is a procedure where the baby is born through a cut made by your doctor through your stomach and uterus. Recovering after a C-section can take some time, as this is major surgery, and you’re having to care for your new child. Some of the things you may experience after a C-section are extreme fatigue due to loss of blood during the procedure, and soreness from the incision. What you can do to help your body recover is get rest when you can, use support cushions when breastfeeding your baby, and ask your doctor about pain medication.
